Accessibility

Evidence everyone can read.

Forensic work is not optional work — an analyst who relies on a screen reader, a keyboard, or reduced motion still has to read the evidence. This statement sets out the standard we hold this site and the pcapLume app to, what we have actually verified, the exceptions we make on purpose, and how to reach us when something falls short.

Conformance status

What this website does

• Full keyboard access

  Every control is reachable and operable by keyboard. The screenshot gallery opens into a proper dialog that traps focus, closes on Esc, and returns focus to the thumbnail you came from; the zero-telemetry demo switch is operable with Space and Enter and reports its state to assistive technology.

• Screen-reader aware

  Semantic landmarks and a single ordered heading outline on every page. Interactive state is announced, not just drawn: the telemetry switch exposes aria-checked and the motion control exposes aria-pressed. Ambient video is decorative and hidden from assistive technology entirely.

• Fifteen languages, real RTL

  Every page — including this statement — is pre-rendered in 15 languages with correct lang and dir attributes, so translation never depends on JavaScript running. Arabic and Hebrew get genuinely mirrored right-to-left layouts, not a flipped stylesheet.

• Motion you control

  The site honors your system's reduced-motion setting, and the pause control in the top bar stops all ambient motion at any time — the background loop, the pillar vignettes, the live capture feed and the ticker. Your choice is remembered and overrides the system setting in both directions.

• Readable by design

  AA-checked contrast in both the dark and light themes, self-hosted fonts that need no third-party request, interactive targets no smaller than 24 by 24 pixels, and layouts that reflow cleanly down to 320 px wide without horizontal scrolling.

The pcapLume app

pcapLume is a native macOS application that runs entirely offline — no account, no sign-in, and no network step between you and the capture you are examining. It follows the system appearance, including Dark Interface, and works with the macOS accessibility stack rather than around it.

Apple asks developers to declare which accessibility features their app supports and publishes the result on the App Store listing. This is what pcapLume declares:

Documented design exceptions

• Terminal output stays in English and reads left-to-right in every locale, Arabic and Hebrew included — the capture feed, the packet ticker, protocol names, product SKUs and enrichment endpoint hostnames reproduce what the tool actually prints. Translating or mirroring them would misrepresent the evidence.
• Packet and byte counts use Western digits everywhere, for the same reason: they are technical values, and locale-specific digit shaping in a bidirectional context makes them ambiguous to read back.
• The App Store screenshots in the gallery show the English application interface. Their captions and alternative text are fully localized.
